Contact — Custom Strap & Wholesale Enquiries

A watch strap wholesale supplier is only as good as its ethics, species accuracy, and paperwork. This contact page is where you send a custom watch strap quote or exotic strap RFQ and we help you get it right — legally, technically, and honestly.

At Alligator Watch Straps, we are an independent sourcing and CITES‑compliance desk, not a tannery or factory. My role is to vet the species, documentation, and makers behind every exotic‑leather strap we recommend, then connect serious buyers with the right workshop or manufacturer.

Use the enquiry form at the top of this page, or message us on WhatsApp, to start a custom strap or wholesale/private‑label project.

How Our Sourcing Desk Works

We specialise in three things:

  • One‑off and small‑batch custom exotic watch straps for collectors
  • Watch strap wholesale and private‑label programs for brands, stores, and strap houses
  • Independent guidance on species, CITES, and realistic grades/specs before you commit

We do not run our own tannery or factory. Instead, we maintain a short, continuously reviewed list of partner workshops and manufacturers that:

  • Use correctly labelled species (true American alligator vs crocodile vs embossed calf)
  • Sourcing from established, CITES‑compliant tanneries (no undocumented hides)
  • Offer repeatable quality and consistent sizing suitable for watch collectors

Our role on this page is to:

  1. Receive your specs and target budget via the enquiry form or WhatsApp
  2. Check that what you want is realistic (species, colour, thickness, MOQ, timeline)
  3. Match you with the most suitable maker and coordinate a formal quote

If you proceed with a partner we introduced, they may pay us a referral fee at no extra cost to you. No one can pay to change what we publish about species, legality, or quality.

For any RFQ, use the enquiry form at the top of this page or plan your trip via WhatsApp if you prefer a back‑and‑forth chat to refine specs.

What To Include In Your Custom Strap or Wholesale Enquiry

The more specific you are, the more accurate your custom watch strap quote will be. Copy‑paste and fill in as many of these points as you can into the message box of the form above or your email/WhatsApp message.

1. Project Type

  • Single custom strap for personal use
  • Small batch (5–50 pcs) for a small brand or retailer
  • Wholesale / private‑label (50–500+ pcs, recurring)

Mention if you already sell straps and what price tier you target at retail.

2. Species and Finish

Be explicit about what you really want and what you are open to:

  • American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) – “true alligator,” almost always CITES Appendix II, farmed, high‑end watch strap standard.
  • Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) – premium “porosus,” especially common from Indonesia and other parts of Asia, also Appendix II with farmed origins.
  • Other crocodilians – for example, Nile crocodile (C. niloticus) or caiman; more variable in grain quality and usually lower price points.
  • Embossed calf – looks like alligator/croc on photos, but is cow leather; we never call this “exotic” and we will tell you plainly if this is what is being used.

You can phrase it simply, for example:

  • “True American alligator, large square scales, semi‑matte, dark blue.”
  • “C. porosus belly, gloss black, suitable for dress watches.”
  • “Price‑sensitive: open to caiman or embossed calf, but must be clearly labelled.”

We will not pass on any project that asks us to mislabel crocodile as alligator or embossed calf as exotic. If a maker proposes a substitution, we insist they name the correct species and origin.

3. Case Fit: Lug Width, Buckle Width, Length

For each strap model, specify:

  • Lug width (e.g., 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 mm)
  • Buckle width / taper (e.g., 20 → 16 mm, 22 → 18 mm, or straight cut)
  • Length (e.g., 115/75 mm standard, 120/80 mm long, 105/65 mm short)
  • Thickness profile (flat 2.5–3.0 mm, padded 4.0–5.0 mm at lugs tapering down)

If you are unsure, state the watch model (for example “Rolex Datejust 36,” “Omega Speedmaster Pro,” “cartier‑style dress watch”) and how you like straps to wear; we’ll recommend a sensible spec.

4. Construction & Lining

Tell us your preferred build:

  • Stitching: machine or hand‑stitched; tone‑on‑tone or contrast colour.
  • Padding: fully padded, semi‑padded, or flat.
  • Edge finish: painted edges (common on dress straps) or turned/rolled edges.
  • Lining leather: calf, Zermatt‑type, or other sweat‑resistant lining; colour preference.

Some destinations have import sensitivities around exotic linings; using calf on the underside can simplify customs in certain markets.

5. Quantity, Budget, and Target Timeline

For an exotic strap RFQ, please include:

  • Pieces per colour/size (e.g., 20 pcs 20→16 mm black, 20 pcs 22→18 mm brown)
  • Total quantity and whether you expect repeat orders
  • Target budget range per strap ex‑works or landed in your country
  • Deadline (for example, “delivery in 3 months for a product launch”)

Indicative production lead times for exotic straps (last verified June 2026):

  • Custom one‑off: ~3–6 weeks after spec confirmation and payment
  • Small batch (5–50 pcs): ~4–8 weeks
  • Wholesale (50–500+ pcs): ~8–16 weeks depending on colours and capacity

These are broad ranges, not guarantees; we will reconfirm current lead times with the workshop for your quote.

Species & CITES: Honest, Legal, Documented

Exotic‑leather watch straps live inside a legal framework. A lot of marketing language does not. Our baseline:

  • We label species correctly, always.
  • We do not treat CITES like a mere formality.
  • We are not your lawyer or customs broker; we help you ask the right questions.

Alligator vs. Crocodile vs. Embossed Calf

American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)
“True alligator.” Farmed in the US and some neighbouring regions, typically listed on CITES Appendix II, requiring export permits for international trade. Favoured for high‑end straps due to relatively soft, even belly scales.
Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus)
Premium crocodile species, also on CITES Appendix II. Indonesia and other Asian countries have established farming operations and export finished leather and goods under CITES permits. Same luxury tier as alligator, but a distinct species with its own grain structure.
Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) and others
Appendix II in most exporting contexts. Attractive but sometimes less regular scale patterns depending on cut and grade. Can be a cost‑effective option for certain markets.
Embossed calf
Cow leather stamped to imitate reptile scales. No CITES implications, often used for lower price points. We refuse to market this as “genuine alligator” or “exotic.”

Many low‑cost “alligator” straps advertised from Indonesia or broader Asia are actually C. porosus or other crocodiles. Crocodile is not inferior by default; it is simply different. Our policy is transparent labelling, so collectors know what they are buying and brands do not misrepresent to their own customers.

CITES Basics for Watch Straps

Most commercial trade in alligator and the major crocodile species is under CITES Appendix II. That usually means:

  • The exporting country issues a CITES export permit confirming legal, often farmed, origin.
  • Some importing countries require matching import permits or specific customs codes.
  • Personal imports (one or two straps in luggage) are treated differently than commercial shipments, but rules vary by jurisdiction.

We work only with makers who obtain appropriate CITES documentation for their exports. For wholesale orders, you should plan for:

  • CITES paperwork fees per shipment
  • Longer transit times due to permit processing and customs clearance
  • Need for a customs broker in some countries for commercial quantities

We can explain what kind of CITES document the exporter should have and where it fits in the chain. That is not legal advice; you are responsible for confirming import rules with your customs broker or relevant authority in your own country.

Pricing Ranges & MOQs (Indicative Only)

All pricing is by formal quote. The ranges below are indicative only, last verified June 2026, and assume standard two‑piece straps with calf lining.

Custom One‑Off Straps

  • American alligator (A. mississippiensis): typically mid‑ to high‑three figures in USD per strap from a high‑grade workshop, depending on cut and finish.
  • Crocodylus porosus: often slightly below or similar to high‑grade alligator for comparable cuts and finishes.
  • Other crocodile / caiman: lower three‑figure ranges are common for solid but non‑flagship hides.
  • Embossed calf: significantly lower, often below the above ranges, but not the focus of this site.

Factors that move the price:

  • Premium belly or “large square” cuts vs. flank or mixed cuts
  • Hand‑stitched, hand‑painted edges, or custom dye work
  • Unusual colours requiring small‑batch tanning

Wholesale & Private‑Label

Indicative MOQs (last verified June 2026):

  • Exotic (alligator / porosus) private‑label: ~20–30 pcs per colour/size combo at the very low end; more commonly 50+ pcs per spec for better pricing.
  • Mixed‑species or mixed‑colour programs: a total of 100–300 pcs across the range often unlocks more competitive unit costs.

On price, wholesale unit costs can range widely depending on species, grade, and finishing:

  • Entry‑level exotic ranges for less visible cuts and simpler finishing.
  • Mid‑tier ranges for consistent belly cuts, good lining, and neat finish appropriate for serious watch retailers.
  • High‑tier for top‑grade hides, meticulous finishing, and more demanding QC.

Use the enquiry form above as your wholesale watch strap contact point and specify as clearly as you can:

  • Species (and whether substitutions are acceptable)
  • Target ex‑works or landed unit cost band
  • Expected annual volume

We can then align you with a workshop whose pricing and MOQs realistically match your project.

How We Vet Makers & Protect Your Brand

As an independent sourcing desk, our credibility with collectors and trade buyers depends on caution more than enthusiasm.

What We Check Before Recommending a Maker

  • Species documentation and labelling: invoices and sample photos must match the claimed species; “alligator” claims without evidence are rejected.
  • CITES track record: history of compliant exports and correct use of CITES permit codes.
  • Quality consistency: multiple orders over time show stable cutting, stitching, and finishing standards.
  • Communication & transparency: willingness to acknowledge limitations, lead times, and grade variations instead of over‑promising.

What We Do Not Promise

  • We do not guarantee clearance in your country; customs has the final word.
  • We do not claim affiliation with any specific luxury‑house tannery or fashion brand.
  • We do not “upgrade” species in description or paperwork to help marketing; if your budget fits crocodile flank or embossed calf, that is what we will state.

If a proposed solution does not meet a basic standard for honest labelling and CITES compliance, we prefer to say “no” and explain why, rather than push a quick sale.

For a grounded assessment of your idea, use the enquiry form or plan your tripContact Options: Form, Email, WhatsApp

Enquiry Form (Preferred)

Use the enquiry form at the top of this page for:

  • Custom strap specs and photos of your watch
  • Exotic strap RFQs with quantities and timelines
  • Private‑label program outlines or brand decks

Attach or reference any drawings, strap you want to replicate, or existing SKUs.

Email

If you prefer email, you can send:

  • A short summary in the subject line (e.g., “Porosus strap wholesale RFQ – 200 pcs”)
  • A bullet‑point spec list as described above
  • Photos of any reference straps or watches

We will usually reply asking a few clarifying questions before matching you to a maker.

WhatsApp (For Fast Spec Clarification)

WhatsApp is practical for quick back‑and‑forth on:

  • Confirming lug width, taper, and thickness with photos
  • Reality‑checking timelines and MOQs before you prepare a formal RFQ
  • Discussing CITES/export considerations in plain language before involving a broker

We do not recommend finalising complex wholesale contracts solely over chat, but it can save days in early planning.

If that sounds like you, send your details via the enquiry form at the top of this page, or plan your tripFAQs: Quotes, MOQs, CITES & Shipping

How do I get a custom watch strap quote?

Use the enquiry form at the top of this page and include your watch model, lug width, buckle width, strap length, species preference (e.g., American alligator vs C. porosus), colour, finish, and any special requests like hand stitching or padding. You can also send photos via WhatsApp. We will review for feasibility, then connect you to a suitable maker to issue a formal quote.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for wholesale or private‑label?

For exotic leathers, indicative MOQs last verified June 2026 are around 20–30 pieces per colour/size spec at the low end, with more attractive pricing commonly starting around 50+ pieces per spec. Total programs of 100–300 straps across multiple colours and sizes usually make the most sense economically. Exact MOQs depend on the workshop and will be confirmed in your quote.

Do you ship worldwide, and how does CITES affect delivery?

Our partner workshops regularly export globally, but exotic‑leather shipments are subject to CITES and local import rules. For Appendix II species like American alligator and C. porosus, the exporter normally needs a CITES export permit, and some destinations also require specific import procedures. This can add paperwork, brokerage fees, and time. We can outline what documents the exporter should provide, but you must confirm import requirements with your customs broker or relevant authority.

Can you provide “alligator” straps made from Indonesian or Asian skins?

Many Indonesian and broader Asian farms specialise in saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), not American alligator. Porosus is a top‑tier luxury leather, but it is a different species. We will label it as crocodile (C. porosus) and not as “alligator.” If a project uses American alligator (A. mississippiensis), we will say so explicitly and document it; if it uses crocodile or embossed calf, we will state that just as clearly.

Is this legal advice about CITES and imports?

No. We provide factual information about species, typical CITES categories, and the kinds of documents that normally accompany legal trade, based on current public guidelines and industry practice. This is not legal advice. You are responsible for checking the latest regulations and getting binding answers from your customs authority, lawyer, or broker in your own country before importing or reselling exotic‑leather products.
