Honest Species LabellingCITES-CompliantHand-StitchedCustom & Wholesale

Editorial & Disclosure

Alligator Watch Straps (alligatorwatchstrap.com) is an independent exotic-leather watch-strap authority and sourcing desk. We curate knowledge and connect buyers to vetted makers and tanneries; we are not ourselves a tannery or manufacturer, and we are not affiliated with any watch brand (Rolex, Omega, Panerai, Tudor, Seiko and others are trademarks of their owners; we reference them only for strap fitment).

Species honesty

“Alligator” and “crocodile” are different species. True alligator means American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). Most exotic straps sourced in Indonesia and Asia are saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) — the same luxury tier, a different species. We label which species a strap is and never present embossed calfskin (“croc-print”) as genuine exotic leather.

CITES & legality — not legal advice

Crocodilian leather is CITES-regulated. Genuine alligator/crocodile/caiman is typically CITES Appendix II (farmed/ranched) and legal to trade with the correct export (and sometimes import) permits. International shipments may require CITES documentation; rules differ by country (US: also ESA/Lacey Act + USFWS clearance; EU: Wildlife Trade Regulations; Japan: national CITES law). This site is general information, NOT legal advice — you are responsible for confirming the import rules of your own country before ordering.

Sourcing claims

We work with CITES-compliant farmed sources and selected makers. We do not claim a relationship with any specific luxury tannery (such as Hermès-owned HCP or Heng Long) unless explicitly documented for a given order.

Prices are indicative

All prices, MOQs, and lead times are indicative ranges, last verified mid-2026, and vary by species, grade, finish, and order size. Final pricing is by quote (RFQ). Nothing here is a binding offer.

How we are funded

Reading this site is free. For custom and wholesale orders we connect you to a vetted maker and may earn a sourcing commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never changes the species we state or the facts we publish.

Care & durability

Exotic leather is natural and reacts to water, sweat, heat, and sunlight. Care and longevity guidance is general; results vary with wear and climate.
